The Trux Band

Putting Classic Rock on the map in Iowa

Welcome to our Website!

                            The Rock of 3 Decades

Thanks for visiting our site.  The Trux consists of 4 talented musicians on stage along with several extremely supportive friends and family behind the scenes that help make this band look and sound great.  The style of this group is mainly "3 Decades of Rock" from the 60s, 70s, and 80s with a couple of tunes from other eras, just to shake things up.  When we are asked what sets us apart from other bands, especially in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area of Iowa, our first thought is "unique"!  No other band sounds like The Trux, especially as a 4-piece band.  Other bands use special effects (toys) for guitars, or vocals.  Some bands just have more members.  But, no other bands has duplicated our sound.

Amazingly enough, all four original members had been connected in some way over a span of  more than 25 years.  After getting out of the US Navy in the fall of 1983,  Ross invited Joe over to his house for a jam session in hopes of putting a band together.  When nothing materialized from that, Ross joined Jim in a band called "Colt".  Colt made many appearances in the Cedar Rapids / Marion area, playing in a variety of clubs, including "The Glass Parrot", "The RainTree Lounge", and "Kitty's Place" at the Longbranch Supper Club.  When Colt broke up in the summer of 1984, Jim and Ross teamed up with Skip to form a band called "Spellbound".   Spellbound toured in the southeast corner of Iowa,  playing clubs like: "Dillons" now 3rd Street Saloon, "Gaucho's", "Kitty's", "King Tut's Lounge" of Cedar Rapids,  "Fox's Lounge" of Ottumwa, IA,  "OK Lounge" of Marion, IA, and "The Cavern" of Moline, IL.

When Spellbound broke up in the fall of 1985, Ross rejoined the Navy.  Jim, Skip, and Joe formed a band called, "Blue Collar Rock".  After several name changes and varions personnel, Jim, Skip, and Joe played for years as a 3-piece band, calling themselves, "The Trux".  When Ross could  find time to take leave from the Navy, he would return to Iowa and visit his former bandmates at their various gigs.  Ross retired from the Navy in 2000, but remained in the Virginia Beach, VA area, playing in various popular bands.  When his last band broke up in 2005, he returned to his home of origin, and asked his former bandmates if they would like to add a keyboardist back into the line-up.

In the fall of 2007, Skip decided to leave the band, which gave Roger Lambert of Solon, IA, an opening to make his debut with The Trux.  However, in the spring of 2009, Roger received a better offer from another local band, Monkey Business.  Once again, Skip was recruited back into The Trux for a short time, but things just weren't working as expected.  Recruitment for a new bass player started again in the fall of 2009, and Jim Bohy answered the call.

Now, with a thicker, more orchestrated sound, The Trux continues to entertain audiences of all ages with great tunes of 3 decades.

We don't claim to be a great band, or a premier band, or the best band around.  We let all the other bands claim that.   In fact, we don't claim anything at all, except that we will try to bring our fans the best Classic Rock of 3 Decades.  We can kick-butt with some of the best music around, and we have a great time doing it.  We let our fans do the bragging for us.  All we do ask is that you come to one of our shows and you can decide what kind of band you think we are.

Also, in the near future, we will be introducing some new original music currently being produced in JTB studios. Please stay tuned to our site for upcoming bookings, sample sound bytes and just some info about what we're up to. We thank you in advance for stopping in and seeing us. We promise that you will not be disappointed. Remember the name "THE TRUX"....'cause...."WELL.... JUST BECAUSE!!
